Veteran’s Care

It is our great honour at Thornton Dental to offer excellent dental service to the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA) cardholders.

Our dental practice accepts DVA, whose mission is to provide support for veterans who served in defence of our nation and celebrate their service and sacrifice.

We are always pleased to welcome veterans in our dental clinic. If you or your loved one is a DVA cardholder, one can enjoy our dental treatments without spending money out of your own pocket.

Instead, we will bill the Department of Veteran’s Affairs for dental costs.

Dental Treatments Accessible through DVA Health Card

If you’re a Gold Card Holder, the Department of Veteran’s Affairs will cover most dental treatments required to meet your oral health needs.

White Card holders are eligible for dental treatments under arrangements from DVA. The treatment can only be provided and carried out in connection with the accepted disabilities of White Card members.

Other dental treatments and procedures require approval from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs before beginning.

Limitations of Dental Treatments

The limitation depends on your clinical requirements. Other dental services have a time limit, such as periodic dental examinations and professional teeth cleaning, which are controlled to one every six months.

Time limitations can be exceeded, especially if your dentist suggests it, but this needs approval from DVA.

The Annual Monetary Limit also pertains to expensive dental treatments such as bridges and crowns.

The annual monetary limit from for certain restorative procedures is $2,488 from 1 January 2015 to 30 June 2018.

This annual monetary limit is not applicable to ex-prisoners of war as well as to patients with an accepted dental impairment or malignant cancer that affects the teeth or jaw.

Denture Replacements

The Department of Veteran’s Affairs will pay for replacements once you break or lose your dentures.

However, the replacement can only be given every six years unless our clinic notifies the DVA that replacements are needed as soon as possible.

Also, the replacement is not granted if the dentures have been relined in the past 12 months.
